We Wait In The Darkness
Local choreographer and dancer Rosy Simas will be in residence at the All My Relations Gallery June 15th through July 13th, 2014. Rosy Simas Danse and All My Relations Arts are pleased to present We Wait In The Darkness, an art installation and series of performances and presentations inspired by the lives of the Seneca women of Simas’ family.
A journey of displacement and homecoming, We Wait In The Darkness is presented in an otherworldly environment of paper, film, maps, artifacts and sound, created in collaboration with composer François Richomme.
For 23 years, Rosy Simas has been an independent dance artist working in Minneapolis. Her contemporary choreography has explored a dizzying range of topics, from the Iraq war to Celtic poetry to quantum theory. Now she has turned her attention to her own family — her Seneca identity, and the tragic history and living presence of Native Americans today. This important new work, supported by national grants from NEFA National Dance Project, the American Composers Forum, The First Peoples Fund, the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, and Minnesota State Legacy funds, includes an installation and series of events at All My Relations Art Gallery in Minneapolis.
